Headteacher's welcome
A very warm welcome to the Akiva School website which is designed to give you a taste of our school and its community.
I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher of such an exciting, Progressive Jewish primary school where individuals are valued and helped to achieve their full potential. The pupils at Akiva are motivated to learn and are supported to become independent and confident young people who thrive on challenge.
Akiva is the only Progressive Jewish primary school in the UK. We are an inclusive community, teaching our children respect, kindness, resilience and integrity. Our aim is for pupils to leave Akiva embodied with these values and as successful, independent learners who are knowledgeable Jewish citizens and active participants in the wider world.
The Akiva team is committed to pupil’s well-being, achieving high standards and providing the best opportunities for all children in our care. Staff, supported by the Governors, work incredibly hard to deliver a rich, authentic and challenging curriculum and one that provides memorable opportunities for our pupils. When children leave Akiva, not only have they reached their academic potential and with a sense of belonging to a tightly-knit community but they are also individuals with a true sense of being a responsible citizen ready to leave their mark on society. Pupils leave Akiva with the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, take responsibility for their choices, make connections and become lifelong learners.
Well-being and achievement go hand-in-hand and as such a key priority for us at Akiva is that every pupil is happy both in and outside of the classroom. We strongly believe that if a child is not happy they will not excel socially or academically. We work closely with parents to ensure that every child’s needs are being met and that every child has a positive self-esteem and feels confident.
To enhance the children’s education, we have a wide array of extra-curricular activities ranging from sport, dance, music, drama through to art and chess. We encourage children to realise their talents and excel in these areas.
All schools have their own distinctive ‘feel’ which is what makes each school unique. At Akiva we believe that the ‘special feel’ comes from the friendly, caring, supportive community which pupils often describe as ‘one big happy family’.
Choosing the right school is possibly the most important decision you will have to make as a parent. We hold parent tours throughout the year and arranging a visit would enable you to experience and judge our school for yourselves. To book onto one of our open days please contact Caroline Swaine on admin@akivaschool.org or telephone on 020 8349 4980.
