Writing

The Akiva writing curriculum is authentic and challenging, it provides memorable opportunities for our pupils.

The study of Literacy develops children’s ability to listen, speak, read and write for a wide range of purposes and audiences. At Akiva, writing underpins the whole curriculum and is integral in striving towards the ethos, values and aims of the school. In particular, it is broad and dynamic, preparing pupils for the challenges of a changing world. We strive to embed a life-long love of language and communication enabling children to express themselves creatively and imaginatively as they become enthusiastic and competent writers. Children gain an understanding of how language works by looking at its patterns, structures and origins and they are provided with purposeful, authentic opportunities to develop and apply these skills across the wider curriculum. Through memorable, real-life writing purposes that link to their learning, we believe that our students respond by challenging themselves to write with real enthusiasm and accuracy for their audience.
