Jewish Studies
The Akiva Jewish Studies curriculum is authentic and challenging; it provides memorable opportunities for our pupils.
Akiva is the only Progressive (Reform or Liberal) Jewish school in the UK. We model a Judaism that is egalitarian, reflective and creative which permeates all aspects of our lives. We express this through joyful song, thoughtful discussion and exploring difficult questions. Our Judaism reflects that of our stakeholder communities who founded the school and continue to guide our Jewish life. We ensure that the learning opportunities and celebrations are authentic and in real time.
Our ethos, as outlined above, informs the purpose and intended outcomes of our Jewish Studies curriculum. The various strands of the curriculum have been designed to:
- - Develop the children’s Progressive Jewish identity;
- - Promote a love of Israel;
- - Help the children understand and interact with the world around them through the prism of Progressive Jewish and British values;
- - Cultivate a relationship with the Divine; and
- - Teach Jewish knowledge and literacy skills.
