Akiva School

HEBREW

The Akiva Hebrew curriculum is authentic and challenging; it provides memorable opportunities for our pupils.

At Akiva School we believe that while teaching Jewish children Hebrew, we are linking them to the Jewish community all over the world, linking them to their history, to holy texts and to the Jewish State. Once a Jew can read Hebrew, s/he can participate in Jewish prayer anywhere in the world. We are committed to the principle that learning another language is anyway an appropriate challenge for all children, whatever their ability or special needs. Our children really enjoy learning to speak another language and are able to carry out an authentic, meaningful conversation.  The earlier a child is exposed to a foreign language, the faster the language is acquired. The advantage of introducing a new language at Primary School is that children tend to be less self- conscious about speaking aloud at this stage of their development which encourages a higher level of fluency.
