Multiple Mitzvot - how we celebrated Mitzvah day 2017

The Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Brian Salinger joined pupils at Akiva  on Friday 17th November as Mitzvah Day was celebrated across the school.

The children and their parents supported 7 local, national and Israeli charities.

There was a school wide toy collection for Camp Simcha;

The Junior Choir sang at Fairacres Home and took a flower basket for the residents, made by the Gardening Club.

Y1 children heard from Akiva parent Liron Reshet about the work of Israeli charity Aleh and made Chanukah cards for children supported by the charity.

Y2 children heard from Akiva parent Clarisse Allshever how she is supported by the Jewish Deaf Association, then designed a tool to help the deaf community.

Y3 heard about the work of Camp Simcha and made matching bookmarks for themselves and a child in hospital supported by the charity

Y4 children designed games for young children and helped out at local nurseries.

Y5 heard from representatives about lonely elderly people supported by World Jewish Relief in the Ukraine and wrote cards and letters to them

Y6 made cards for children supported by Save a Child's Heart, having heard how the charity brings sick children from many countries into Israel for heart surgery.
