What is the PTA?

The PTA (Parent Teachers Association) might conjure up ideas of lots of meetings, minutes and formal elections, votes and resolutions. In fact, the PTA only meets formally once a term and there are three designated positions which are the Chair (Rachel Peters) and Treasurer (Lizzie Segal). Aside from the Head Teacher and a couple of other staff, all others involved are just regular parents (some of whom are also class reps).

The PTA Chair and Treasurer take their positions for 2 years at which point two new parents take on the roles. The roles will be available for new parents to take on in 2015.

The purpose of the PTA is, quite simply, to allow parents to become involved with the school, in any way they wish. There are no formal requirements and it’s really up to the parents to decide what they want to do.

PTA activities are very varied, but organising events is always an important part. The school’s focus festivals for 2020-2021 are Chanukah and Shavuot and the PTA will run events to tie in with these. The main fundraiser of the year is the Summer Fair, which is always a wonderful day for the whole school community.

In addition, the PTA through the class reps also arranges events for individual classes including Havdallah in pyjamas and Chavura suppers, as well as annual events for each year group such as Purim quizzes and Shavuot parties.

Aside from events, the PTA is the vehicle to allow parents to get involved in other areas such as the garden, playground development, the library, staff appreciation and even a Friday challah delivery. We also understand that many parents work and have lots of time limitations, so for us the PTA is really whatever parents want it to be.

We’re always looking for new ideas for how to make the school an even better place than it is already and volunteers to help make it happen. So think big, bold and out of the box, get in touch and let us know your ideas!

If you don’t have the time to volunteer, it would still be great for you to come along and support our events.
